School Psychologist
Each student is paired with a practicing school psychologist for a planned sequence of experiences within the school setting. This sequence starts with activities such as observation of classrooms, conferences, and special education meetings, while gradually increasing the student’s responsibilities and activities throughout the year, culminating in a wide variety of services under supervision (assessments, direct and indirect interventions, and parent/teacher conferences). The practicing school psychologist assists in student evaluation and monitoring, with university faculty maintaining primary responsibility for supervision.
School Counseling Intern
We will support our counseling interns in developing the skills to work with students in our inner-city schools with experience in restorative justice and PBIS practices. We instruct with regard to mindful practices and students are challenged to understand the ethical dimensions of personal and professional life and to examine their own values, attitudes, and beliefs as they prepare to create, implement, and evaluate data-driven, comprehensive, and developmental school counseling programs aligned with State SEL and PBIS Standards.
Speech and Language Pathology Assistant
Our current SLPA certificate program is a 130-hour course of study that provides approximately 20 hours of anytime/anywhere online instruction and 110 hours of clinical fieldwork. SLPA clinical fieldwork consists primarily of face-to-face work with clients (100 hours) and also includes an administrative/support services component (10 hours) Supervision of clinical fieldwork is provided by experienced speech-language pathologists with current California license/credential and preferably American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) memberships. Currently the program has virtual and face to face experiences.
LCSW Intern
During a social work practicum, the Clinical Counseling student follows and observes a social worker or MFT on a limited basis, usually once a week. The student may take on some responsibilities under the close supervision of a trained social worker. A practicum is generally part of a course that requires reporting and reflecting on experiences in the field to combine theory and practice. Students typically begin social work internships after completing all, or a significant amount of, their coursework. Internships can be completed on a part-time or full-time format. Interns take on more responsibilities independently as they put their classroom learning into practice.
